Eastern Star Country Club & Resort was built on a former coconut plantation and is one of just five courses in Thailand designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Jr.
This well-maintained links-style course offers wide fairways that give you some forgiveness off the tee, but with 65 bunkers and no fewer than 11 lakes in play, you’ll still need to think carefully about every shot. Tall coconut and mango trees frame the holes, while numerous doglegs demand strategic play. Eastern Star is a popular choice for locals but remains a hidden gem for international golfers visiting Pattaya golf courses.
The course is very picturesque, framed by nearby mountains and cooled by a constant breeze from the gulf. With its generous fairways it’s fun for beginners, yet the water hazards, bunkering and doglegs make it a solid test for low-handicappers. Many golfers choose to combine Eastern Star with championship layouts in Bangkok as part of longer Bangkok stay & play packages.
You’ll need to play smart golf to score well here. The par-5 4th hole demands accuracy off the tee with water stretching all along the left side, while the par-3 13th requires a perfectly struck shot over water to a green tightly protected by bunkers and rough. Eastern Star is also memorable for its unique details – such as the FA Cup hedge right in the middle of the fairway on hole 2, a quirky touch that golfers never forget.
The clubhouse includes a restaurant, Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts and a small resort on site. Changing rooms and food are simple rather than luxurious, but overall Eastern Star offers excellent value-for-money golf in relaxing surroundings.
Tip: Eastern Star is one of the few Pattaya golf courses where walking is still allowed – perfect if you enjoy playing without a buggy.
