Summit Windmill is not a long course, but it is one of the most challenging golf courses in Bangkok. Despite its difficulty, experienced as well as less experienced players use the course, which is always in excellent condition. It is just 30 minutes from the center of Bangkok. Although being so close to downtown, the surroundings are pleasant and park-like with lots of wildlife such as birds and reptiles, often seen on and around the course.

Nick Faldo’s innovative design is visible with the undulating fairways and the four excellent par 3 holes all of which are protected by water. The 12th hole with the island green is probably the very best.

9th hole – a par 4 – is an exciting hole where many can be rewarded by taking chances. If you have the courage for it, much of the hole can be cut off by going over the lake, cutting it off and hit inwards and over the water. This will leave a mid-iron to the green on the nearly 400 meter long hole.

Much ground work was done on the golf course to create good elevation changes and sloping fairways, rarely seen in other golf courses in Bangkok. The course does not offer a lot of rough, but the many elevated greens and undulating fairways are a challenge in themselves.

Make sure to play from the set of tees best suited for your level or you will have a hard play on the course.

The clubhouse is one of Thailand’s most opulent, appearing more like a European castle than a clubhouse. Despite the stunning appearance, the restaurant, changing rooms and other facilities are nothing special.

Lighting was installed in 2004, making night golf possible.

Summit Windmill is popular with local members and travelers. Good tee times can be hard to get and the golf course is almost always fully booked during weekends. Overbooking is very likely and five hours for a round of golf is the norm at Summit Windmill.
